Hectically Humbled
Posted On May 4 2007I’m a little late in posting this week, but it’s been a little more hectic than usual—end of the semester, end of the fiscal year, my mother was visiting, and, oh yeah, I got the news this week that I have been elected vice-president/president-elect of LITA! Before first running for LITA Board, I had only ever held one other elected office. I was the school treasurer in 6th grade. My elementary school had a “superior learner” program and my two opponents were both in it. I had an early lesson in the power of splitting the vote. I still have …

Posted On Apr 19 2007Nothing major really striking my fancy, but there has been a smattering of interesting news on the library technology front in the last couple of weeks. Free-gle Scholar Some scholarly societies are launching something that is either a counter to or a target for Google Scholar. Scitopia.org will launch this summer and include 3 million articles from 13 scholarly societies. The jury has not even gathered yet since it’s only April and the site will not launch until June, so I am left only to complain at this point that I don’t have any great love for press releases that …
